Bute Produce and Bute Advice Centre (BAC) are delighted to announce that we will be collaborating on a project to support the most vulnerable in our community.
Funding has been approved to deliver a 4 week pilot; Bute Advice Centre and Bute Produce have identified12 households that would benefit from the programme.
What is Being Offered?
Clients who are assisted by BAC across a variety of issues, including consumer rights, energy issues, welfare benefits, money advice, housing etc will be supported with budgeting, being credit aware and basic banking amongst a range of support. As another part of the toolkit clients can now be offered a referral to the pilot Grow Your Own Workshop, highlighting the benefits of growing your own food both in terms of nutrition, better mental and physical health and its cost effectiveness. The workshop will run from 30th September through to 21st October, every Tuesday from 12 noon to 2pm.
This project is a potential tool in helping clients gain confidence, take control of their lives and their budgets, reduce stress and promote independence. The project will build financial skills and horticultural skills that will be useful long after the course has come to a finish. In particular participants will see the growing process from seed through to fully grown vegetables with explanations from a highly trained horticulturalist.
The course is free of charge. Everything needed will be provided. At the end of the course a “Grow Your Own” pack will be provided to offer the opportunity to put what they have learnt into practice at home.
A Certificate of Attendance will also be awarded.
If this is something you would be interested in taking part in at a future date, please call Bute Advice Centre on 01700 502784 in the first instance.
